Refractory linings protect structures and equipment from these high temperatures, allowing them to operate efficiently and safely.

Refractories must be able to withstand these changes without losing their properties. In addition, refractory materials protect equipment walls from corrosive attack by fluxes and other materials used in the steelmaking process. §     These linings also provide thermal insulation, which helps retain heat inside the furnaces, reducing energy losses and increasing the overall efficiency of the process.
